Ken Follet - Pillars of the Earth

What a poor book. Take around 10 characters, give one trait each, put them all around the same town and find an excuse for them to be there. Make everything happen to those same characters. Everything that is bad will end up badly, everything that is good will end up perfectly. Good guys win. Have I forgotten something? Oh yes it doesn't even feel like the middle ages. Inconsistencies, shortcuts, unrealistic (and dare I say boring) characters and all in all a book easy to read but boring. It could have been told in 100 pages and probably be a much better book than this. Anyway, it's been a pain and I'm done with Follet. Avoid except if you want to turn off the brain and pick a book that you won't care about.
